We take a look at Omar’s much-loved signature residential model. Bella Brodie reports
As park homes go, there are few as easily recognisable as the Omar Colorado, which has been popular for over 50 years and is still in firm demand today. In fact, it’s so much a part of Omar’s early history that their logo visually incorporates the arch on the original Colorado’s window!
The current model retains its distinctive Dutch barn style roof and large dormer, but has a more contemporary look with large Georgian bar windows. For those who love the arched windows on the original model, the Colorado Classic is the model to ask for.
A few years ago while visiting a park, I was invited into an early Colorado which had been decorated and refurbished here and there throughout the years, and I was astonished to see how well it had stood the test of time – it actually looked pretty much like new, and I think that’s a real testament to the strength of the design and build.
Charming, characterful, well maintained and much cherished, this was clearly a home its latest owner was proud of, with every reason. The Colorado was well ahead of its time, and with a few minor tweaks from a décor perspective the interior has proved to be timeless too. It simply doesn’t seem to date. That’s a great attribute for any home to have, and that, combined with its charm and character, is what has made it stand out as one of the most memorable park homes on the market.
LAYOUT AND ACCOMMODATION
The Colorado has a traditional layout with an inner hall, ‘L’ shaped lounge diner, separate galley kitchen and utility room at one end of the kitchen leading back into the hall or to the side via a back door. There’s a family bathroom and study, and two bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room accessible through a walk-through dressing area. Available in sizes from 38 x 20 through to 65 x 22, there’s also a 40 x 20 version without the utility room and study to offer a different way of using the living space.
EXTERNAL APPOINTMENT
In addition to the iconic Dutch barn style roof, the Colorado has a feature inset front door with a large dormer over and Georgian bar windows. There’s even more detail adding character externally though, with feature brick-effect corner quoin slips below the windows and forming a diamond shape over the entrance – as we said, the Colorado is almost impossible to confuse with any other
park home, it’s unique!
