Bella Brodie steps inside Irish manufacturer Oakgrove’s latest lodge and likes what she sees…
Oakgrove is well known for big hitting, luxurious lodges, so the company is often one to watch for lodges demonstrating ultimate luxury. This year the Irish-based company launched a brand new luxury model, and we were so impressed we thought it deserved a review as soon as possible!
ACCOMMODATION AND LAYOUT
The Tallow has an open plan living area incorporating the lounge, kitchen and diner. Entrance is via a side door into an inner hall, or the French windows on the front elevation. There’s a guest WC in the entrance hall, and an external store cupboard adjacent to it, accessible from the outside of the lodge and a flexible space for hobby equipment, storage or hire fleet cleaning and changeover kit. There are two further bedrooms – both with en suite bathrooms; one with bath; the other with a large walk-in shower.
The outside of the Tallow is striking from several perspectives. It has innovative full height feature corner windows, so only the curtains and glass separate the occupant from the outdoor environment. The front of the lodge has extensive glazing, offering a pretty immersive experience.
There’s the option of CanExel or natural wood cladding, while doors, windows, fascias and soffits are uPVC.
An extended 800mm overhang to the front gable has integrated spotlights perfect for illuminating decking to the front, and slot windows to the lounge let even more light flood in.
The outside store cupboard offers complete flexibility to the way the lodge is used, without eating into the internal space.
That’s not where the innovation ends in this beautiful lodge though, as we went on to discover when we took a good long look inside!

While it has a contemporary air and high-end apartment-style feel, it also looks cosy and inviting, so it bridges several genres of lodge to invent its own, truly unique look and feel.
