Bella Brodie checks out the Omar Kingfisher, a mid-range lodge that still feels really luxurious…

The Kingfisher luxury lodge is one of the most iconic, long-standing, and popular lodges in the UK and it’s easy to see why.

INTERNAL APPOINTMENT
The latest version has a beautiful interior design scheme of soft natural shades with contemporary, patterned fabrics. Stylish furniture gives an uplifting kick of luxury in the living area, where you’ll also find clean, modern lines, white cladding to the vaulted ceilings and feature anthracite vertical radiators on clad walls.
The lighting is stylish and interesting, so there’s a clever mix of classy and classical design, with enough visual features to ensure that this is a lodge with plenty of character and visual appeal.

The level of luxury afforded in the Kingfisher makes it the perfect target for any discerning lodge buyer keen to invest in a home-from-home lodge that they’ll love to escape to whenever they feel like it, without having to pack every time as it’s easy to keep everything needed to hand with such ample storage.

EXTERNAL APPOINTMENT
The exterior styling includes a full glass façade, patio doors, feature lighting and an extended range of cladding options available to ensure that the lodge fits perfectly within its park surroundings.

LAYOUT AND ACCOMMODATION
This model is available in single or twin floorplans and with a roof terrace, from 40ft x 15 through to 65ft x 22. There are quite a few floorplans shown on the Omar website, and we can see that where there are three-bedroom layouts, these are all doubles. The model shown here is 45ft x 20 with two double bedrooms. The roof terrace version incorporates an exterior spiral staircase, and the spacious upper terrace can easily fit two sun loungers, a table and chairs. So, if you have a plot with a view, this is a model you must consider!

Wow, what a kitchen! With its skylight and impressive sweep of integrated appliances, the Kingfisher will take your breath away

LIVING AREA
The main entrance on the side of the Kingfisher leads into a lobby with full-height cupboards. The model we see here has two sets of patio doors on the front elevation, so this lodge will easily open up to outdoor space on a hot day. The beige curtains and blinds combined with the greys, creams and natural shades of brown in the furnishings and flooring, combine to great overall effect. In the living area, there’s a built-out feature column clad vertically to stand out further, incorporating an elegant fire, shelving and space for a TV, although an ornamental mirror looks gorgeous here.

The seating will go down a treat, too, with high-backs and low set, so most will find them supportive and comfortable.

After enjoying an in-depth conversation with a lodge owner last year about the impractical seating in another manufacturer’s lodge, I have now started checking out all lodge seating options in a little more detail. Look closely and you can spot the suites that not only look stylish and comfortable, but also offer proper back support, without leaving shorter folk dangling their feet off the sides or taller folk struggling to get up! Maybe it’s an age thing, but it is well worth paying attention to that sort of detail if you want to spend a lot of time in your lodge. Happily, Omar is one of the manufacturers that is well ahead of the curve from this perspective.

Back in the living space there’s a six-seater oval dining suite with plush padded chairs – so again, comfort and a bit of luxury are included as standard.
In the kitchen, there’s a wraparound arrangement, distinctive for the Kingfisher, but in the last version, Omar has cleverly added a full-height wall to one side, which paved the way for further storage cabinets on the wall. This space hosts a full suite of integrated appliances and a breakfast bar with stools. Again, the aesthetics are pleasing in this kitchen space, with brick tiling in white, marble-effect worktop, cladding to ceiling height, a Velux window, and underlocker lighting at both head and floor height.

BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS
The master suite in the Kingfisher is about as grand as they get, with a king-sized bed and wardrobes with mirrored sliding doors. Geometric shapes and a striking headboard all add to the impact, and behind the middle section of the mirrored wall is a concealed en suite shower room. Fully tiled in a pretty pastel blue, with the choice of rainfall or handheld shower, this space is well finished, with a modern wash handbasin with mixer tap and large, heated towel rail.

The master hosts a hidden en suite in the mirrored section

OUR VERDICT
For buyers keen to plunge into holiday home ownership this year, there’s no better way to do that than with a tried and tested model that has been universally loved throughout the years. Yet somehow, Omar has stepped this model up to add even more allure. The combination of practicality, balance of luxury with price point, versatility, and home-from-home feel all adds up to a tempting proposition for those who want every penny to be well spent and enjoyed.
There’s plenty of ‘wow factor’ built into the Kingfisher, and if you haven’t fallen in love with it by the time you get to the master bedroom, this suite will seal the deal. This is a lodge that will deliver well for the money, and that’s why park buyers often have an Omar Kingfisher as a show lodge – much like a Kingfisher’s target in the wild, they tend to get snapped up quickly, for good reason!
