It’s not often that mobile home matters make it into Parliament, but here’s what happened when a Conservative MP raised them in the House of Commons earlier this spring…

There was a question put to the Prime Minister on park home issues in the House of Commons on 8 March.

During Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs), Anthony Mangall, the Conservative MP for Totnes (above), said: ‘There are 250,000 people living in this country on park home sites. They are treated as second-class citizens by councils where they pay council tax. They are treated poorly by site managers who own the sites and they are at a disadvantage when we roll out our incredibly generous energy schemes. Can the Prime Minister ensure that we can actually give them more support and more help, and reform the [Mobile] Homes Act?

Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak MP, replied: ‘My honourable friend is right that there is still more work to do in the sector. We are making progress in implementing changes.

‘Park home owners’ rights are now codified in writing with the site owner and, should those obligations not be met, residents can take site owners to a tribunal.

‘Local authorities also now have the powers to take enforcement action and we will continue to support them to improve protection for park home residents.’
