One of Britain’s best-selling lodges has recently benefitted from a classy makeover.

If you didn’t know much about lodge models, you’d probably still recognise one model name if someone mentioned it – the Omar Kingfisher. Without a doubt, it has been one of the most long-standing and popular lodges in the UK and the great news is that it has just got even better!

When PH&HC heard that a makeover was in progress, we thought it might be a trickier update than most as it’s so well loved, with a look and feel of its own that many instantly recognise. We never doubted that it was achievable in the hands of the hardworking Omar team though, and they have very successfully retained this model’s key identity while also bringing it bang up-to-date.

External appointment
The exterior styling with full glass façade, French doors and feature lighting, which has made the Kingfisher so popular over the years remains largely the same, and quite rightly so as it works well, having led the way for so many other lodges that have since followed in its footsteps.

The main difference, externally, is that buyers can now choose from an extended range of cladding options, such as the flat log profile pictured, so whatever the park surroundings it is destined for, you can choose the cladding to make sure it fits in beautifully.

To the front elevation a full glass front fascia with two sets of French doors leads into the lounge and dining area and there’s feature lighting here and to the side entrance, so if you have decking or a hot-tub to the front it’ll be lit up atmospherically. To the side there’s a roof dormer over the entrance, so this is a pretty stylish model from either approach. The Kingfisher is also available with a roof terrace with an exterior spiral staircase. The spacious upper terrace can easily fit two sun loungers, as well as a table and chairs so you can simply sit back and enjoy the view from a choice of terraces if you want to!

Internal appointment
The styling is very modern, yet it has retained the familiarity of the much-loved original layout. Panelled vaulted ceilings throughout create a feeling of space and light, combining with the interior design theme to make this a very uplifting lodge. Yet there’s grounding in the textures and materials used, so it’s no lightweight in the design stakes – put simply, it’s incredibly easy on the eye.

Speaking about the concept behind the Kingfisher, Graeme Craig, chief executive at Omar, commented: ‘The Kingfisher has been a timeless classic of the Omar lodge range for over 30 years.

‘It’s a real home- from-home and the ideal second property for somebody who wants something that’s cosy and comfortable.’

Describing the new version’s look and feel he continued: ‘Stand out features in the modern styling that give the new 2021 Kingfisher such a lovely warm feel include aged oak cabinetry, combined with cashmere glass-effect cupboard doors in the kitchen, and a striking focal point to the lounge in the form of a feature panelled media unit with contemporary electric fire.’

Accommodation
As the Kingfisher is such a core model for Omar, there are several options and sizes available from 36ft x 20 through to 65ft x 22, so you can rely on suitable options being available for the way you need to use it, with some layouts also offering a utility room. Although this version’s second bedroom is showing as a twin-bedded room, it would be easy to have two doubles instead if you prefer. The master bedroom features a walk-through dressing area and en suite shower room.
