Exterior
At first glance the design appears highly conventional. But on closer inspection you notice several distinctive features.

One is the amount of glazing, especially in the front wall. Another is the deep soffit overhang beneath the high-pitched, charcoal-grey tiled roof. At 600mm deep, it provides some shelter from the rain as well as featuring down lighters over the main and patio doors.

Then there are the stainless-steel gutters and downpipes set against the cedar clad walls with black uPVC door and window frames. All rather restrained and projecting an air of refinement.

Lounge
What immediately strikes you on entering the 19ft x 21ft open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner is its lightness and airiness and you don’t need to look far to identify the reason: glass galore.

We counted no fewer than 17 panes (10 of which can be opened) including those in the door. Virtually the whole front wall, with its two pairs of sliding patio doors, is glazed, the panels above them included.

The colour scheme of the décor accentuates the effect: white MDF paneled vaulted ceiling; white uPVC window/door frames, plain ebony wallpaper; a plain fawn carpeting.

A muted splash of colour is provided by the pair of freestanding sofas, seating five: stripes in various shades of pale grey (echoed by the several scatter cushions). Those are matched by the fully-lined curtains (only on the patio doors) and roman blinds with an added splash of pale blue. A pair of deep windows fitted with venetian blinds flank the ‘chimney breast’ with its TV above a wall-mounted ornamental electric fire, remote controlled. A nest of three oak tables are the only other items of lounge furniture. Two pendant lamps provide night-time illumination – everywhere else in this lodge there are chrome ceiling down lighters. No wall or ceiling lights, note.
