We find out more about a special open day at a top Scottish park site to mark its 20th anniversary…

Red Deer Village, the residential park site in Stepps, Glasgow, is turning 20 this summer! To celebrate, the park hosted a 20-year anniversary open day on 29 June. All residents, their friends and families were welcome to attend. Visitors, local businesses and friends of the industry were also invited. Local businesses also donated prizes for a raffle, with many getting involved.

Raffle proceeds were raised for Cardowan Community Meadow, with the final figure still to be announced.
Taking inspiration

More than 20 years ago, brothers John and Ivan Hendry travelled around the world, visiting Australia, Canada and the USA to get inspiration for their planned park home development. They brought their ideas back to their home country of Scotland and the rest is history! They aimed to mirror the high quality look of the parks they’d seen on their travels.

The Hendry brothers took ownership of former holiday park, Craigendmuir Caravan and Camping Site, on 24 June 2004.
The site was heavily invested in to redevelop the land, with the first residential park home arriving at Red Deer Village
in 2010.

Over the past 20 years, the children of the park directors have worked within the business. Some have gone on to find their own paths, while others are still prominent within the park. Grandchildren have even now joined too!

Huge changes
The residential park home community in Scotland has seen some huge changes over the past two decades.

Park homes from leading manufacturers such as Stately–Albion, Prestige and Omar have transformed the village, with 97 homes now on-site.
Red Deer Village is now on the fourth phase of development of a potential five phases, with 183 homes planned in total.

A massive step for the retirement community was the introduction of its residents’ hub in 2017.

The £450,000 purpose-built space was designed to provide residents with a place they could host events and socialise with neighbours. It’s been a huge hit with the locals ever since its grand opening!

All 143 residents also have access to a courtesy shuttle bus. This takes them for their weekly shopping, as well as on a monthly outing to a destination of their choice.

Prior to the takeover in 2004, the land at Red Deer Village had been a disused car park, piggery and part of the railway service.
Now, the development of residential park homes sits adjacent to the brothers’ five-star holiday park. It also makes up part of the Cardowan Moss Nature Reserve.

Special anniversary
Red Deer Village is proud to be celebrating its 20-year anniversary this year.

The park has had much success to celebrate over that time, including numerous five-star ratings for Red Deer Village Holiday Park. The park takes great pride in its accolades in the David Bellamy Conservation Scheme and its fantastic work, and the events it carries out for its chosen charities.
Red Deer was even named as one of the runners-up in Park Home & Holiday Living’s 2016 Residential Park of the Year award.

Supporting the community
The park has sponsored events in the local community, used local contractors and suppliers and offered local businesses the chance to host events in the park’s hub to show off their products.

Red Deer Village has also accepted special guests to the park, including Rufus Bellamy, local MPs and current local MSP, Fulton MacGregor.
