Despite the end of Covid restrictions on most foreign travel, data from holiday home operator, Verdant Leisure, suggests that 2023 may see a continued boom in UK staycations, this time due to the cost-of-living crisis.
As part of its annual review of the travel industry, a survey of 1,000 of Verdant’s customers found that more than four in five (84 per cent) say they are likely to go on a staycation in 2023 with over half (56 per cent) of those saying that the cost-of-living crisis would steer them towards a staycation over a holiday abroad. Bev Dixon, chief operating officer at Verdant Leisure, has shared some of the survey’s other findings, including the fact that budget holidays are on the rise, with almost half (46 per cent) of respondents saying that their staycation budget is less than £200 per person, while over three-quarters (76 per cent) will prioritise good value-for-money. The survey also reflected increased demand for tourism in Scotland, with two in five (40 per cent) respondents choosing Scotland as their UK holiday destination.
Verdant’s research also shows that two-in-five (40 per cent) are keeping an eye out for pet-friendly facilities when choosing their next UK holiday destination.
