For a somewhat unusual take on holiday accommodation, how about staying in an old WW2 RAF bunker? National planning consultancy Boyer has secured planning and listed building consent for the conversion of a former WWII bunker into a holiday home. The vacant bunker is located in Ringstead, close to the coast at Ringstead Bay, Dorset.
The Grade II Listed bunker was constructed by the RAF during the Second World War and used as part of a wider radar station to detect enemy aircraft crossing the English Channel.
The planning consent provides a unique opportunity to repair and re-purpose the historic structure for the use and enjoyment of the wider population, allowing an appreciation and celebration of its wartime history.
Internally, most of the old fixtures and fittings were removed when the bunker was decommissioned. However, the proposed development will retain as much as possible of the bunker’s history, including the exposed concrete walls, whilst providing a modern and contemporary holiday home. We hope to bring you more on this development in future issues and perhaps you may even be able to book a holiday there soon!
