The increasing popularity of ‘staycations’ looks set to continue this year, with two luxury Lake District holiday parks reporting a boom in sales of holiday homes over the winter period.
Managers at Old Park Wood and Longlands Caravan Park, both part of the Holker Estate, claim a shift towards domestic holidays has fuelled enquiries. The news comes as Cumbria was ranked fourth in the renowned ‘Cool List’ by National Geographic Traveller, which sets out the most interesting destinations to visit around the world for the year ahead.
Alex Hodgson, of Holker Leisure, said renewed interest in the ability to spend quality time with friends and family in beautiful surroundings had resulted in an excellent start to the year.
He explained: ‘This year we will be welcoming a number of new owners to both sites who will be able to enjoy their first full season here with us. More and more people seem to be thinking differently about how they want to spend their holidays and free time now. The trend towards staycationing is continuing to grow and people are looking to spend more time here in the UK.’
