Lancashire hot park

Breaking new groundConstruction work has begun on the new £1.7m waterside retail, restaurant and office development at Mercia Marina. Derby-based Davlyn Construction has been appointed as main contractor for The Boardwalk development, which is scheduled to open to the public in September 2014. The Boardwalk will comprise a central restaurant, built over two floors and recessed to include an outdoor seating area on the water front. The restaurant will be flanked by three retail units on each side and the remaining upper floor space will include up to four small office units. As well as boat moorings, the marina is also home to luxury holiday lodges, with 15 of these already sold. This good news quickly follows on after the North Lancashire site’s recent success in achieving national recognition, gaining both AA four pennant status and a five star VisitEngland Quality in Tourism Award.

Holgates staff collected the award at a glitzy black-tie awards ceremony held at Blackburn Cathedral. All 20 category winners in the tenth anniversary year of the prestigious Lancashire Tourism Awards, including the Holiday Park category, were announced by Simon Calder, Senior Travel Editor of the Independent.

Bay View Caravan Park was acquired by Holgates in 2007 and has since undergone a significant programme of investment. The original farm buildings have been sympathetically converted to provide a new restaurant, bar and games room. Menus focus on quality local produce, ranging from traditional breakfasts to hearty evening dinners with great, healthy children’s menus.

Park owner Michael Holgate commented, ‘’Winning a Lancashire Tourism Award has given the team a great sense of achievement. It really is the icing on the cake for everyone involved with Bay View.’’
