Justice Campaign launches new drive on commission charges

Justice Campaign launches new drive on commission chargesPark Home Owners’ Justice Campaign aims to tackle commission levels on home sales

Following on from the successful campaign to bring to an end the practice of sale blocking, the Park Home Owners’ Justice Campaign has launched a new petition calling upon the Government to review the law which allows site owners to charge up to 10 per cent on the private sale of park homes.

In the recently passed Mobile Homes Act 2013, site owners are prohibited from being involved in the private sale of park homes and so will no longer incur any costs in the sale process. With these changes enshrined in law, the Justice Campaign wants a lower, more proportionate level of commission. The Justice Campaign argues that estate agents typically only charge two per cent on bricks and mortar home sales so park site owners should follow suit instead of taking a 10 per cent slice of most sales.

The petition needs to gather 100,000 signatures to trigger a House of Commons debate. Annette Brooke MP, a champion of the sale blocking campaign, has already agreed to lend her support to the new campaign. In deciding to sponsor the new campaign Paul Baker, Park Home Account Director at Towergate Insurance, said, ‘We have long been committed to supporting park home residents and to promoting the park home lifestyle which for thousands of park home residents is idyllic. We want to see park home ownership increasing and firmly believe that for that to happen there must be greater fairness and a true partnership between residents and owners, treating each other with mutual respect and consideration.

‘We were delighted to support the campaign to end sale blocking because we felt that was the right thing to do.  Equally we think it is right that the Government should be asked to review a law that was established more than 30 years ago and which is considered by many to be unfair.’
