TV documentary show profiles colourful park home character

Wyldecrest Parks’ Alfie Best and his son, also called Alfie, recently starred on the latest Channel 4 documentary My Big Fat Gypsy Fortune.

Millions of viewers watched as the father and son team landed at Shirkoak Park, in Woodchurch, Kent, and discussed how to be successful in business. Romany gypsy dad Alfie, one of the UK’s largest residential park home providers in the UK, has amassed a £100million fortune.

And son Alfie, 15, told how he quit school at 12 to start up his own businesses.

Rather than rely on his dad’s wealth he gets up early cold calling on industrial estates trying to sell paint, high visibility jackets and floor mats. The teenager was filmed for eight days over two months and said it felt ‘fairly natural’ to be on camera.

Alfie said, ‘It’s very hard, especially when you’re young. Business has picked up a bit due to the programme but it’s very difficult: you have to push through.

‘Of course my dad has given me words of advice. He told me success was five per cent inspiration and 95 per cent perspiration.’
