Follow Cornwall’s lead

Follow Cornwall’s leadPark home owners from Cornwall and neighbouring counties travelled to Bodmin on 15 March to attend the first Cornwall Council Park Home Forum.

The event brought about 80 residents together from different parks to hear presentations by cabinet council members, the localism team, trading standards, Cornwall fire services and a number of other supporting agencies and parties, including Councillor Heather Morris, chair of the Exeter Council Park Home Forum. A senior police officer also attended.

Other contributors included Stephen Hassall, representing the Independent Park Home Advisory Service with added input from Tony Turner and the JBS Residents’ Action Alliance.

The key messages that emerged were the determination of Cornwall Council to continue its national lead in addressing the problems faced by home owners. It emerged that a good number of those attending were previously unaware that help and support were available.

It was accepted by Cornwall Council that, as a new unitary authority, it had inherited the problems of historical apathy by previously local independent councils that would now take some time to fully address but that there was prioritisation of the worst cases reported so far.

If you would like your local council to organise a forum to help park home residents in your area, please let them know what is happening in Cornwall.
