Let’s park the housing problem!

newsPrestige Homeseeker’s founder director, Silvano Geranio, met MP Peter Bone to discuss how park homes could play a vital part in fixing the UK’s property crisis. Peter was present when the company’s new factory opened in 2008 and was pleased to hear of the growth of the company since then, with Prestige Homeseeker now employing more than 400 people in Northamptonshire. Discussions on how off-site manufacturing and park homes could provide part of the solution for the current housing crisis, plus raising awareness of how park homes, both came up in a friendly but forthright discussion. If you think park homes should be part of the housing solution please let Prestige Homeseeker know so the firm can forward your views onto Peter - email: sales@phplh.com.

It’s gold again!

newsFor the seventh year in succession, a holiday park and marina in Derbyshire, Mercia Marina, has won a gold award in the David Bellamy Conservation Awards, by giving wildlife the same VIP treatment as its visitors.

There was an extra honour for Mercia when Professor Bellamy declared it a ‘Honey Bee Friendly’ park, as part of his new initiative to help protect the threatened insects. He praised especially its wildflower hedgerows, where high nectarbearing blooms provide valuable foraging for honey bees as well as butterflies and other pollinators.

The marina’s commitment to running a business based on forward-looking sustainability policies marks it out as a true green champion, said David Bellamy, who enthused: ‘Winning seven golds in as many years is a fantastic achievement for Mercia Marina.’

Staycation bonanza

newsPointing to the continuing boom in ‘staycation’ holidays in the UK, a top Dorset park has placed a massive order for 80 new luxury holiday caravans, which are lined-up for delivery this winter.

Now, says the group, holiday guests will have the choice of some of southern England’s most highly specified caravan holiday homes and lodges in which to stay.

Family-run Shorefield Holidays, which is preparing to celebrate its 60th anniversary next year, owns seven multi-award winning holiday parks in Dorset and Hampshire.

The 80 new holiday homes scheduled for arrival at Oakdene Forest Park include top-end models from UK manufacturers, some with four bedrooms and others with private hot-tubs.

South west park group scoops ‘best park’ title

newsEstablished residential and holiday park operator Acorn and Oaktree Parks Ltd has scooped a prestigious holiday award.

Looe Coastal Retreat was voted ‘Best Park in Cornwall’ in the hotly contested ‘Relax and Explore’ category of the Hoeseasons’ awards.

Winning the award in just its first year of business represents a real coup for the luxurious Cornwall-based holiday lodge park.

Park owner Rachel Nation told PH&HC: ‘It feel amazing to win this award as we’ve only been open a year. The fact that it was voted for by our customers, and there is so much competition in Cornwall and in this category, makes it even sweeter.

‘Thanks to everyone who helped us to achieve this.’

Looe Coastal Retreat is a chi-chi development of lodges, available for hire from Hoeseasons, as part of its exclusive Bouja Luxury Caravan Breaks Collection. It is situated less than a mile away from the award-winning Cornish coastline with its unblemished beaches and crystal blue waters.

Pedal power!

newsIn 2017, PH&HC featured Cathi Foale, of Park Home Chassis Services, and her impending charity cycle ride to raise awareness and funds for The MS Society (multiple sclerosis).

In April, Cathi and her partner Paul Finch flew with their bikes to Bologna in Italy and rode 500 miles to Rome in eight days. With just their bicycles and two pannier bags each, they set off and found accommodation at the end of each day, wherever they happened to reach! It is not generally a risk but they did have one hairy evening where all B&Bs and hotels closed on a Monday but eventually they found a resting place out of town!

The cycle was absolutely glorious, starting off through Tuscany and then moving into the Umbrian countryside. The roads were pretty pot-holed but Cathi only experienced one blow out tyre.

She explained: ‘We saw amazing landscape and absolutely wonderful mountain top villages and towns where we would stay overnight.

Reaching out and having fun!

newsNew Park’s community association is something of a revelation. At present, the organisation boasts a whopping 356 members with only 30 homes out of 248 without a member. On such a large park, that’s truly impressive.

Chairman Colin Back explained: ‘We aim to reach out to all residents. In 2012 the association was rescued from closure by the current committee; it was reformed and a new approach led to a vibrant and caring association for the whole community.
‘In 2016 we won a prestigious best residents’ association competition, the runner up for best resident and also runner up for best manager.’
