Park finds touching way to aid animal welfare

newsMeerkats, pythons and a giant tortoise raised both smiles and funds for animal welfare this August at The Elms retirement park in Lincolnshire.

The exotic guests were the centrepiece of a well-attended wildlife discovery day at the Torksey park, held for residents and their friends and families.

But the animals – which also included a bearded dragon, barn owl, lizard, raccoon and a skunk  – weren’t just there to be admired by everyone.

That’s because the children and grown-ups in attendance were able to enjoy a hands-on experience by petting and even holding some of them in their arms.

All the park asked for in return was a small donation for any photographs taken, with all the proceeds supporting animal welfare and conservation bodies.

Boost for business

newsPark home and lodge site operator, Countrywide Park Homes, has recently secured a multi-million pound deal to sell one of its parks, in a bid to raise capital to source new developments, as part of bold expansion plans. After Countrywide’s acquisition of the exclusive Carlton Meres Country Park in Suffolk back in April, the company has recently sold the plot to Park Holidays for an impressive sum in excess of £13 million.

‘Park Holidays approached us with an offer that has enabled our business to not only secure considerable investment for future developments, it will also boost our current portfolio of 13 parks with plans for new features and improved facilities,’ said Anthony Barney, Countrywide Park Homes’ owner and chairman. He continued, ‘We are seeking to invest in a number of UK locations, both now and in the foreseeable future, so we would like to invite any park owners that are interested in selling to get in touch.’

Buy-to-let bonus!

ocrnews94Adding to the appeal of owning a holiday caravan or lodge, people who turn their holiday homes into cash generators during the school summer holidays are now scooping pay-outs of more than £5,500 each, according to the findings of Park Holidays UK. This claim comes after recent analysis by the company of the earning patterns among customers who sub-let during the season of peak demand.

Park Holidays UK says that many owners let go of just six weeks in July and August to maximise income, and then enjoy well over 40 weeks of their own exclusive use. But, such people aren’t necessarily missing out on a summer break, says the company, because what they earn can more than cover the cost of a holiday abroad.

As a note of caution from us on the magazine, not all park operators will allow you to sub-let your holiday home, so be sure to check before you buy.
